Message from the Interim Head, Junior School: September 1, 2017

Dear JS Parents,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!  We have been eagerly anticipating your return, and are looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. You will receive a link to a blog posting from me every Friday.  The purpose of this blog is to share critical information for the upcoming week, as well as to share stories about our students and school.

This week's message reiterates the schedule for the opening week.  As always, if you have any questions please contact your classroom teacher, the office or me.

Drop-off/Pick-Up Parking: JK-SK Parents are to park in the Upper School Parking Lot (entrance off Avenue Road) and walk over to the Junior School for both pick-up and drop-off.   If a student in Grade 1 or 2 has a sibling in Kindergarten, she will be sent to the Kindergarten room for pick - up. Drop -Off Time: 8:00 a.m. - 8:20 a.m. Pick - Up Time: 3:15 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Grade 1 - 2 Drop -Off Time: 8:00 a.m. - 8:20 a.m. Grade 1 parents are also permitted to park in the Upper School Parking Lot for Drop-off, for this week only. Pick - Up Time: 3:15 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Rosewell Ave. Entrance Grades 3 - 6 Drop -Off Time: 8:00 a.m. - 8:20 a.m. Pick - Up Time: 3:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Rosewell Ave. Entrance Sibling Pick- Up Students in Grades 1 - 2 with siblings in Grades 3 – 6 will be dismissed during the 3:30 – 3:45 p.m. time slot. Please note: There is NO Parking at the Junior School! Please stay in your car, at both pick-up and drop-off.  Parking in the fire lane is NOT permitted. For Pick-up, students will be called by Faculty on duty, and make their way to you. Each family will be provided with a name card for their daughter.  Please display this prominently on your dash board to facilitate pick-up. Extra Havergal College Security, Police Officers, and additional faculty have been arranged to facilitate the pick-up and drop-off procedures. Should you need to pick up your daughter early from school, please use the Upper School Parking Lot.

Tuesday, September 5

• 8:00 am to 8:20 am
• Students arrive at school and make their way to their Home Form classrooms.
• New students will be greeted by Specialist Teachers, who will accompany them to their classrooms.
• Class Lists will be posted in the JS Office

• 8:20 am
• Classes Begin for JK - Gr. 6

• 11:30 am to 12:00 pm
• Student and parents in Grade 6 invited to attend Overnight Excursion Information Session in Grade 6 Classroom.

• Dismissal:
• 11:30 am to 11:45 am
• Junior Kindergarten to Grade 2.
• 11:45 am - 12:00 pm
• Dismissal for students in Grades 3 to 5.
• 12:00 pm
• Grade 6.

Please Note:

Student dress:  

• JK to Grade 6: HC uniform consisting of short sleeve golf shirt with skirt or tunic, modesty shorts, and green knee socks with black shoes.

Absences/Lates:

• Please report absences/lates to 416.483.3843 extension 6510.

Snack:

• Students should come to school with a nutritious morning snack; it is important to remember that Havergal College is a nut/peanut restricted facility.

Gator Care:

• There is NO Gator Care available either before school or after school on Opening Day

Wednesday, September 6 (Day 1)

• Gator Care Opens
• 7:15 am - 8:00 am (No registration required)
• 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm (Registration required: gatorcare@havergal.on.ca)
• Junior Kindergarten/Senior Kindergarten (half-day)
• 8:30 am to 11:00 am
• Students in Group A at school (a copy of this list has been sent separately to parents with daughters in the Kindergarten program).
• 1:00 pm  to 3:15 pm (half-day)
• Students in Group B at school (a copy of this list has been sent separately to parents with daughters in the Kindergarten program).
• Grades 1 to 6 (full day)
• Regular class schedule
• Please note that students in Gr. 3L have their first swim class and are asked to bring in their swim gear.
• Dismissal:

• Please note that students in Gr. 5L have their first swim class and are asked to bring in their swim gear.
• 8:30 am to 9:00 am

Monday, September 11 (Day 4)

• Photo Day - Students are to wear # 1 Dress.

Tuesday, September 12 (Day 5)

• Veracross Training for Parents 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm
• People and Program Evening 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Green and Gold Shop

• The JS Shop will not be open during the month of September.  Due to high volumes at the Shop during the first week back to school, we can’t accept orders via email or phone message.  Those parents requiring uniform items must visit the shop in person at the Upper School.  The daily hours, Monday-Friday are: 8am-1pm & 2pm-4pm.   Beginning September 11^th, orders will be accepted via email only and the items will be sent to the JS office within 3 business days.
