Dear JS Parents,
It is hard to believe but we have completed our first full week of school! Our students are adjusting to the new routines, and we are working with them to ensure that they understand the reasoning behind the rules and structures of our school. As we shared at People and Program Night, children feel most secure when they know and understand the limits of a situation. When these are unknown or not clearly and consistently applied, a child can feel overwhelmed by having too much power and too many choices.
By taking the time to set up our expectations, routines, and limits we are better able to provide a safe, secure and predictable environment for our students. This foundation allows them to be not only challenged academically but to be exceptional human beings who walk through the world knowing who they are, what they have to contribute, and how to take ownership when they make mistakes.
As you head into the weekend, I encourage you to ask your daughter the following questions:
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
Warmly,

As you head into the weekend, I encourage you to ask your daughter the following questions:
- What is the Golden Rule? How have you applied it this week?
- Why do Ms. White and the teachers ask you to walk out of prayers quietly?
- The Junior School Prefects came to Prayers today, and shared this year's school motto. "17-18, Yours to Create." What would you like to create this year?
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
Warmly,
Kate White

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for DROP-OFF OR PICK-UP
Junior School Moms & Dads,
Do you have 30 minutes to help out at drop off or pick up? We need extra hands to open card doors and make sure the JS girls (especially our little SK and JK girls) are getting out from their cars so parents don't have to park in the driveway and get out to open doors for the little ones.
Please click on the link below and sign up for a morning or afternoon 30-minute slot!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: NEW AND RETURNING PARENTS FOR THE HAVERGAL WELCOME COMMITTEE
- The Welcome Committee is a group of Havergal Junior School parents who work with the Admission Office to give tours to prospective families. Members of the Welcome Committee are also involved in admission events such as the Open House, Coffee and Conversation and our New Family Picnic. This is a great way to meet new people and share your love of Havergal with families who are going through the admission process. Being part of the Welcome Committee is a flexible role and we will work around your availability.
- If you would like to be a part of the Welcome Committee, please sign up at the link below, and join us at our Welcome Committee orientation meeting on Monday, September 25th at 9:00 a.m. in the Learning Hub. (right after Prayers)
- The Admission team truly values the involvement of our Welcome Committee . We receive awesome feedback from our prospective families. They really appreciate feeling welcome in our school and love hearing your HC stories and experiences!
- Welcome back from the Havergal College Parent’s Association! Our volunteers are hard at work planning events and activities to increase our parent Community engagement. We have many volunteer opportunities and if you are interested in getting involved, please email mekhul.verma@gmail.com.
- Celebration Saturday is only 2 weeks away! Please volunteer for this amazing event! We need 100 volunteers on Sat, Sept 23. Please click on the volunteer link below and choose the time and location of your shift. Choose as many as you like, the event runs all morning (rain or shine). This is a fun-filled Havergal day that supports our community partners. The event takes place on the Upper School property.
- The Volunteer link for Celebration Saturday (“Cel Sat”) 2017
(Please note: this form will close on Wed, September 20 at 11:45 pm.)
- We also need auction items this week. Please feel free to donate something wonderful to the school for Celebration Saturday’s auction. Examples are electronics, trips, tickets, gift cards etc. Auction items can be dropped off at the Upper School Security Desk. Please label “for Cel Sat Auction”.
ATHLETICS
What an amazing first week of Athletics! We have record numbers of girls who are participating, which puts a big smile on my face! Being active and learning new skills in the pool, gym or field, builds confidence in a girl to make positive choices as she grows up.
All tryouts will be completed this week and teams will be posted outside the gym and on the parent portal by the end of day on Friday September 15th. Parents will be able to check to see if their daughter made a team before dismissal. Please encourage the girls to join a squad to continue to develop their skills while having fun if they have not secured a spot this season on a competitive team.
