Earlier today our Principal, Helen-Kay Davy sent out an announcement that I have been appointed as Head of the Junior School, effective September 2018. I could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to continue working with Havergal's exceptional faculty and staff, as well as with you and your daughters. Thank you for your kind messages of congratulations today. They are very much appreciated. I look forward to further sharing my vision with you in the days to come.

Monday, February 5: Dress Like a Rock Star
- Students are invited to leave their uniform at home, and dress like a rock star for the day. There will also be a lip-synch contest during lunch recess!
Tuesday, February 6: Green and Gold Day / Hockey Day
- Students Grades JK- 2 to wear their HC uniform with green and gold accessories
- Students in Grades 3 - 6 are invited to wear FULL green and gold clothing to show their school spirit, as they will be attending the Hewitt Cup Hockey game in the afternoon.
Wednesday, February 7: Favourite Jersey Day
- Students are invited to wear their favourite athletic jersey or t-shirt on top of their HC Uniform
Thursday, February 8: Crazy Hair Day
- Back by popular demand! Students are invited to make their hair as crazy as they can. The perfect compliment to their #1 Dress!
Friday, February 9: House Accessories Day
- Students are invited to show their House pride by wearing house colour accessories with their HC uniform.

Grade 3 - 6 Parents,
- On Tuesday, February 6, at 1:00 pm Havergal College U20 and U12 Hockey Teams will play against Bishop Strachan in the highly spirited annual HEWITT CUP! Your daughter will travel to and from Mattamy Athletic Centre to this event with their teachers. Please remember to complete this registration so your daughter has permission to get on the bus with her class.

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION!

- Parents are invited to join us in the Junior School on Monday February 12th, for a Lunar New Year celebration! Morning prayers will take place from 8:25 – 8:50 am in the gymnasium, followed by a parent reception in the Learning Hub. Coffee, tea, and morning pastries will be served. CELL PHONES IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL
- Please note that students in the Junior School are not permitted to use their cell phones during school hours, on school property. The only exception to this is if a student is calling or texting after school about walking home or being picked up.
- Should you need to contact your daughter during the school day please call the front office. If your daughter needs to contact you during the day the expectation is that she asks her teacher or comes to the office to use the phone.
- If a student is found to be using their cell phone three times during school hours, with the exception of after school, she will not be permitted to bring the phone back to school.

FOREST OF READING UPDATE
- With the Forest of Reading books announced back in October, readers in the junior school are busily flipping through the ten books in each program. If your daughter is in grade 5 and 6, she is most likely taking part in the Silver Birch Fiction program, with an eye toward voting in April and attending the Festival of Trees in May. This year 95 students are participating, a record-breaking number! Students in grades 5 and 6 were also lucky enough to visit with Marina Cohen, author of The Doll’s Eye, one of the most popular (and spooky!) Silver Birch books. Ask your daughter her thoughts about this wonderful visit!
- The entire junior school were treated to a wonderful read aloud during Prayers on Thursday. Kelly Wang (gr 6) and Izzie Wang (gr. 6) hosted the prayers, outlining how exciting Forest of Reading is. Nicole Gao (gr. 3), Tori Curry (gr 5), and Jane White (gr 5) read The Branch (Ma Branche Preferee) in English and in French, as this book is on both the Blue Spruce list of picture books, and Le Prix Peuplier list for French picture books. Mme. Gareau plans to share these books with her classes. And of course in April, everyone taking part in Forest of Reading will cast their vote, hoping that their favourite will win!
