Message From the Head of Junior School: October 27, 2016

Dear Parents,

As I write this the hallways and classrooms are full of moms and dads here for Parent/Teacher Conferences. We received a lot of feedback about the online appointment booking site, PickATime and understand that some of you were frustrated by your experience with this site. The school subscribes to this professional service with the goal of simplifying matters for you and, in this case, the opposite may have occurred to you. Our team has met to discuss how we can improve this experience from the parent perspective. We are in the midst of reviewing the online booking process in both the Junior and Upper Schools with the goal of alleviating the 'surge' of parent bookings that can occur when too many people try to access the same system at once. We are also in the process of getting answers from PickATime about what went wrong from a technological and coding perspective. In the meantime, I apologize for any upset and aggravation caused and thank you for your patience and understanding while we endeavour to resolve this issue going forward.

Warmly,
Leslie Anne Dexter

HALLOWEEN IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL
JS students will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31. Students should come to school in grub (non-uniform) clothing during the day, and bring their costumes to change into after lunch. This year, our Halloween Committee has worked hard to make sure that the girls have a 'spooktacular' time. Each class will participate in door decorating, a dance party, Halloween crafts, a costume contest, and conclude the school day together in a fun Halloween assembly. We ask that you do not send in any candies or sweets, as the school has arranged for all students to have a tasty treat.

ATHLETICS:
Online sign up: October 31 - November 28, 2016
Tryouts: November 28 -  December 9, 2016
Season: November 16, 2016 - February 25, 2017

HCPA FUNDRAISER - HOLIDAY WREATHS
Beautify your home for the holiday season with a freshly made wreath brought to you by the HCPA, in partnership with Circle Home and Design. Through this exciting fundraiser, we are offering four beautiful wreaths that you may order through the school to enhance your living space over the holiday season:
- Traditional Evergreen, 24 inches
- Red Bay Berry, 24 inches
- Clementine Bay, 24 inches
- Crimson Magnolia, 28 inches
Please note that the evergreen is suitable for outdoor display or temporary indoor display, while the bay and magnolia wreaths are suitable for indoor or protected outdoor display, (eg., a small roof to protect them from direct wind and rain).

The wreaths will be available for viewing in early November in the Junior and Upper Schools and will be ready for pick up at the JS office on December 1 from 3:00-5:00 pm. Order forms can be dropped off in the locked box on the counter in the JS office, or at the Security Desk in the Upper School by no later than November 15.

Order forms are available on the Parent Portals (http://community.havergal.on.ca/)

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: JUNIOR SCHOOL FATHER-DAUGHTER EVENT
Are you interested in being part of something new and exciting? The HCPA is seeking volunteers for the Inaugural Junior School Father-Daughter Event. Volunteers are needed to form the committee to plan and oversee the execution of this new event with the Chair, Mr. Kevin Daley, father of Kaitlyn in 4M, and Kyra in 1H.
