Message from Head of Junior School - January 12, 2018

Dear JS Parents,

A warm welcome back to all of our community!  We hope you had the opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends over the break.

For prayers today, Reverend Douglas, along with Grade 2L, spoke to the importance of developing a growth mindset.  She and the students helped our community explore the idea of what it feels like to not be able to do something...YET.

Please CLICK HERE to see images from this morning's message.

2018 is off to a fabulous start!  Students are already deep into their studies, and we are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring.

Warmly,
Kate White

Please Note:

REMINDER - JS DRIVEWAY at PICK-UP and DROP-OFF
  • Families are reminded that cars are NOT to be left unattended along the driveway, as it is a fire lane and impedes the flow of traffic especially at pick-up and drop-off times.  Should you need to park, you are invited to do so on Rosewell or in the lower section of the Upper Schol Parking Lot, which has been reserved for JS families.
REMINDER - OUTDOOR PLAY
  • With the changes in weather, the playground and field can be quite wet at recess.  We strongly recommend students bring an extra pair of tights (or socks) to keep in their lockers.
REMINDER - VERACROSS
  • Please remember to check Veracross for program scheduling as changes do occur.  Veracross will have the most up to date information.

MODIFICATIONS TO THE UPPER SCHOOL UNIFORM

We wanted to share with you an update about our Upper School uniform, which will impact your daughter once she enters Grade 7 at the Upper School. Our school uniform has evolved many times over the years, and as such, we are planning to make the following slight modifications to the current Upper School uniform in order modernize and provide additional options for students:
  • The green blazer, first introduced in 1930, will see an update in style, along with the white blazer. The enhancements will include a tailored jacket, with a more modern cut, smaller should pads and a lower button.
  • The golf shirt will be refreshed, featuring a tailored cut and new fabric designed to keep its shape over time.
  • The white turtleneck will be re-introduced as an alternate option to the long and short sleeved golf shirt.
  • Pants will be introduced to the school uniform, based on feedback received from the Upper School’s Gender Task Force. Pants will provide students with a new and versatile option and will be available in black.
  • As always, we will continue to offer the tunic in a variety of sizes, ranging from 4 to 20.
  • Going forward, our #1 Dress at the Upper School will remain the same – white dress shirt, blazer and tie and kilt – with the option of black pants instead of a kilt.
We are aiming to have these new items available for students at the start of the 2018/19
school year. The current uniform will be permitted for wear in the two years following, until
the start of the 2020/2021 school year.

We are also exploring options to make black pants available to Junior School students as well and look forward to sharing an update with you at a later date.
