Message From the Head of the Junior School - April 13, 2017

Dear JS Parents,

Today in Prayers, we said farewell to Rev. Andrew MacDonald.  We know you join us in saying thank you for all that Rev. MacDonald has contributed to the life of the school, and to the education of our girls.  We wish him well, as he begins this next exciting chapter in his life.  

Have a lovely long weekend.  May the sun shine brightly, as you spend time with family and friends this Easter weekend.

Information About Founder's Day- Thursday, April 20

• What is Founders' Day?
• Founders’ Day, is the day that our community (students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff) joins together to commemorate the laying of the cornerstone for our present building and reflect on the values and traditions that were established at Havergal more than 100 years ago. Founders’ Day was established in 1976 – 50 years to the day of the laying of the foundation stone of the present building (on April 23, 1926).
• Where does Founders' Day take place?
• St. Paul’s Cathedral on Bloor Street, Havergal’s Parish Church
• What do students need to wear?
• #1 Dress (long sleeve white shirt, HC tie, green socks, black shoes); Hair tied back
• What is the timing?
• 7:15 a.m. Students in Junior Choir arrive at Junior School
• 7:30 a.m. Students in Junior Choir depart for St. Paul’s Cathedral
• 8:00 a.m. Students in Grades 1 – 6 arrive at school for attendance
• 8:10 a.m. Students load the buses  
• 8:30 a.m. Buses depart
• 9:00 a.m. Arrival at St. Paul’s 
• 9:30 a.m. Founder’s Day Service Begins
• 11:00 a.m. Approximate time to load buses to return to Junior School
• 11:30 a.m. Approximate time of Arrival back at school
• 11:50 a.m. Lunch Students will have recess outside until lunch begins
• 12:50 p.m. Regular Schedule for afternoon
• Do students in Kindergarten attend?
• No.  Students in Kindergarten have a special morning planned, and are looking forward to having the run of the school!

• Our Mom’s Night Out is soon approaching on April 20^th at the Uptown Loft!  We are almost sold out with about 15 tickets still available to purchase. Get your tickets today before they are all gone!

DADS AND DAUGHTERS A-MAZE-ING RACE

• Volunteers are needed to assist with the event on April 23^rd from 11am to 4 pm.  A pizza lunch and A-Maze-ing Race t-shirt will be provided for the volunteers.  Please email the Chair of the event, Kevin Daley kwdaley@rogers.com to sign up.
• Participants will receive a detailed email next week with instructions about the race, so please stay tuned! The race check-in will be 12:30pm to 1:00pm at the Brenda Robson Hall in the Upper School with the race starting promptly at 1:00pm.  
• It’s going to be A-MAZE-ING with over 300 participants!

STAFF APPRECIATION – MAY 4th

• Junior School Staff Appreciation Day is three weeks away! A big thank you to those who have signed up to bring food and flowers, and volunteer their time to help out during the day. We still need some parent volunteers and food/flower donations so anything you can do is most appreciated!

A Woman's Place in the House of Commons: A Panel Discussion (Wednesday, April 19; 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.)

• Moderated by Donna Dasko, A Woman’s Place is in the House of Commons will feature the following special guests: the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Justice Betty, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, the Honourable Senator Linda Frum and the Honourable Dr. Helena Jaczek.
