Message from the Head of the Junior School - January 20, 2017

Dear Junior School Parents,

Thank you for the positive feedback regarding the new format of the Junior School Blog.  As always, our goal is to ensure that you receive the information you need in a clear and timely manner.

Warmly,
Leslie Anne

Please Note:

Repair Cafe:  Jan 21 @ Toronto Reference Library

  • Grade 5s have been learning about the Law of Conservation of Mass and how matter never really goes away, it just changes. As part of this, they have thinking critically about how toys, electronics, and machines are designed, and their environmental impact.
  • Students learned about the Repair Café.  Here, volunteers with a "fix-it" attitude, come together in different locations to help people repair broken items in order to reduce the amount of broken items going to the dump.
  • Mr. Reiter is planning on launching our own Repair Café here at the school in February.  If you are interested in learning more about the Repair Café, please email him directly and if you are keen, there will be a Repair Café in operation at the Toronto Reference Library on Jan 21st from 12-4pm.  More information can be found @  http://repaircafetoronto.ca/visit
  • Mr. Reiter’s email is:  dreiter@havergal.on.ca and he will be at the event on Jan 21st.

HCPA Used Uniform Sale

  • Collection Dates: Jan 23 - Feb 3
  • Sale Date: March 2
  • Donated items may be dropped off in the temporary bins outside of the JS Learning Hub.  A permanent bin is also located outside of the JS Green and Gold Shop.
  • Please note that this is a collection of Havergal College uniform items only, and does not include footwear.
  • Your support is greatly appreciated and the money raised will help fund many initiatives at our school.

Chinese New Year Reception - January 30th

  • Parents are invited to join us for morning coffee and pastries in the Learning Hub following Chinese New Year prayers on January 30. Please RSVP to Sara Ly sly@havergal.on.ca or 416-483-3843 x6915 by January 24 if you are planning to attend.

Calling All Bakers and Volunteers for the Bake Sale - March 2
  • Creative bakers mark your calendars for the next Junior School bake sale, to be held on March 2.  Details will be made available closer to the date, but we are in need of lots of volunteers to bake delicious nut-free treats and to help out on the day of the bake sale with packaging and sales.  Please contact Jennifer Newton (newtonjennifer@me.com) and Mary Dean (marygdean@rogers.com) to volunteer.

HCPA Call for Nominations - March 10 Deadline
  • The Havergal College Parent Association will be sending out information on the nomination process and available positions on the HCPA.  Interested parents can nominate themselves or someone for any of the positions.  Information will be sent out through your grade reps, but if you have any questions, please contact Andrea Cohen, HCPA Vice-Chair, (andreamcohen@icloud.com)
