UPDATE ON THE NEW BUILD
December 21, 2017
  • As we move toward the New Year, there are some changes coming your way regarding the next phase of our construction project, primarily at the Junior School.  We are aiming to commence our site services work in January in preparation for construction at both the Junior School and the Upper School, which will involve the relocation of some municipal service lines, such as water, sewer, electrical, etc.  At the Junior School, the City of Toronto storm sewer lines and Toronto Hydro electrical service lines will be relocated.
  • At the Upper School, site service work will include City of Toronto water and storm sewer lines, Toronto Hydro electrical services and the Enbridge natural gas line. This work is necessary in order to proceed with the project and is standard practice prior to the start of construction.  Due to the relocation of our site services at the Junior School, the driveway will be impacted resulting in a reconfiguration and consequently, the drop-off and pick-up process will be affected. These changes will be tested internally prior to implementation with students and parents in order to fine-tune the process and ensure optimal safety. We will be sharing more details and instructions outlining these upcoming changes with you in January, before the new process is in place.  We look forward to continuing work on this important project and appreciate your patience.

Message from Head of Junior School - December 15, 2017

                    Dear JS Parents,

By now you have read your daughter's report card.  Along with the faculty, I am very proud of the efforts that are made by our students daily in their learning. A huge thank you to the faculty for the thoughtful work that goes into writing the report cards. Should you have any questions regarding your daughter's report card, please reach out to the appropriate teacher who will be happy to have a conversation with you.

This afternoon, shortly after the blog is sent out, our Kindergarten students will be hitting the stage with their Christmas Concert.  This is always a highlight of the year, and will be enjoyed by all. Photos and videos will be available on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram later today.

Next week, we are looking forward to see you at our Grade 1 - 6 concert, taking place at Eglinton St. George's Church. The students are sounding fabulous, and you are in for a treat.

Happy reading, and enjoy the snow this weekend!

                    Warmly,
                    Kate White

SAFETY REMINDERS FOR STUDENTS WHO WALK TO AND FROM SCHOOL
Despite the winter weather, we have several students at the school who are regular walkers. We’d like to remind parents about the importance of safety once students leave the Havergal property, from slippery winter conditions to being mindful about strangers in the area.

We have provided students with guidelines and examples of what to do if they are approached by a stranger when walking to and from school, but we appreciate your help in reminding them as well. Here are some suggestions to keep in mind:
                    • Do not engage in conversation with a stranger
                    •  Use main streets for walking where there may be more pedestrian traffic instead of side streets
                    •  Walk with a buddy instead of alone, if possible
                    • Walk in well-lit areas
                    • Walk back to school if you feel unsafe
                    • Make noise if you feel a stranger is getting too close
                    • If a vehicle approaches, take note of the license plate number or type of vehicle, if you are able
                    • Report any incidents to an adult that you trust at home or at school

We want to do our best to ensure the safety of students at all times, both on and off the Havergal campus.

                    HC SUMMER CAMP (GRADES 4 - 6)
                    Summer 2018
                    • Junior School students in grades 4-6 are invited to register for an exciting summer camp program at Havergal College. Each year, Athletes in Motion (AIM) sports camp and Band at Camp Havergal (BACH) music camp invite students from our partner public schools Grenoble and Gateway Public School for a week of FUNdamental sport and movement skills and/or musical instruction in clarinet, trumpet, percussion, saxophone, trombone, and baritone. AIM and BACH Camps run in August and are supported by Havergal Senior School volunteers, the Forum for Change and the Director of Performing Arts. The registration fee is $400 per child per week and a portion of these fees will go towards ensuring our summer camp programming remains accessible to Havergal's Community Partners.
                    • For more information please see the link to registration brochures below, or pick up a copy at the front desk.
