Message from the Head of the Junior School - March 3, 2017

Dear JS Parents,

This week has truly been wonderful!  We enjoyed seeing so many of you at Parent-Teacher Conferences, and are thrilled to report that the HCPA Bake Sale was a huge success. The feedback we received on Parent Teacher Conferences was thoughtful and on Monday in our morning Huddle, I will share your appreciation with the Faculty and Staff. We were also pleased to have Tony DiCosmo, Havergal's Executive Director, Advancement and Community Relations, at the Junior School yesterday. Tony shared photographs of the new build, talked with parents and students were able to ask questions about the upcoming new additions to the Junior School. The excitement has only just begun!  Have a lovely weekend.

Warmly,
Leslie Anne

Please Note:

Bake Sale Success!

  • Thank you to all parent bakers and volunteers who generously donated their time and delicious treats to support the bake sale.
  • The money raised will be donated to our Limitless Campaign, supporting new infrastructure for our girls.  This year's bake sale in both the Upper and Junior schools raised over $9,000!
  • The true success of these events lies in the community building with parents and the partnerships with local bakeries and grocery stores that abundantly contributed to the bake sales.
  •  Any treats left at the end of the night were donated to a program called "Out of the Cold" at Blythwood Road Baptist Church.  This is a program for the homeless who drop in to stay for a night and eat a good meal.  Thanks again to our gracious community!

JS Dads and Daughters: This is for you!
Join us on April 23rd for the inaugural Junior School Father/Daughter event:
“A Maze-ing Race”!

  • Dads, or an equivalent buddy (uncles, big brothers etc…), and their daughters will journey between the Upper and Junior Schools on the Havergal College campus, competing in a number of timed challenges.  Each challenge is carefully designed to be inclusive of all ages, regardless of whether your daughter is in JK or Grade 6.  Everyone will participate within one of 10 colour-coordinated teams, and teamwork will be a prerequisite for success!  Teams will be tasked with memory games, obstacle course challenges, detour decisions and players will need to work together to solve a "passport word scramble". The team with the lowest cumulative time will be declared the winner!!
  • Tickets are $35 per participant and only available on Veracross for the month of March. Please purchase your tickets with Visa or Mastercard at this link: https://events.veracross.com/hc/11-fddar
  • Each ticket includes a Havergal-branded team coloured t-shirt, race day accessories, and refreshments/snacks to be provided at the finale social to be held in Brenda Robson Hall.
  • "Our A-Maze-ing Race" has generated considerable buzz throughout the junior school.  We hope you will help to make this a memorable experience for the girls and dads alike!

Exciting New Summer Camp Opportunity for Junior School Families!
  • Each year, the Forum for Change at Havergal asks students the question “What kind of world do you want?” Eight years ago, a group of students responded to this question by forming Athletes in Motion (AIM), a group with a mission to ensure that sport is accessible to all. Havergal has proudly run the AIM Sport for Community camp for students from our community partnership schools each August ever since. Last summer, Cissy Goodridge, Havergal’s Director of Performing Arts, initiated a music camp based on the AIM model and the Band at Havergal (BACH) camp was born!
  • For the first time ever, Havergal is inviting our Junior School students to participate in both the AIM sport and BACH music camps alongside youth from our community partnership schools. The camps are open to children ages 9-12 and will run over the last two weeks of August. The registration fee is $400 per child, per week. A portion of this fee will go towards ensuring that sport and music opportunities continue to remain accessible to campers from our community partnership schools.
  • Registration forms with detailed camp information can be found in the Junior School front office. Please return the completed registration and waiver form to the Junior School office by April 3, 2017. Registration fees will be charged to your daughter’s account.
