Message From the Head of the Junior School - March 31, 2017

Dear JS Parents,

Welcome back!  It has been wonderful to see the girls again, and to hear about all of their adventures over the break.

On Thursday, Coco Wang, our Junior School Prefect delivered the message in Prayers.  She spoke to us about the motto that she lives by: "always be childlike, but never be childish," emphasizing the importance of curiosity and excitement in our lives.  In her message, she challenged every student to try something new and out of their comfort zone, and made the connection to setting goals.  I invite you to read Coco's speech by clicking on this link, and ask your daughter how she plans to accept the challenge!

Warmly,
Leslie Anne

Thursday 9 March 2017

Message from the Head of the Junior School - March 10, 2017

Dear JS Parents,

On Monday, the Junior School celebrated International Women’s Day during prayers. Reverend MacDonald, spoke to us about the history, and worldwide traditions, and Callia Newall, a grade 5 student, eloquently delivered the following message:

"Stories about real women accomplishing their goals is key to driving positive change. The more examples we have of women and men pushing through barriers, the more inspired we will be to believe in ourselves, trust that we can accomplish our goals too, and change the world for good."

In light of this message, we wanted to share with you the video that everyone saw at the prayers, where junior school students and faculty shared stories about women who have inspired them. Enjoy!

Thank you all for a wonderful term of learning, growth and community spirit. Please take a moment to read through the information below so that you are up to date when we return after March Break. We wish you all a healthy and happy holiday with family and friends.

Warmly,
Leslie Anne

Please Note:

Exciting New Summer Camp Opportunity for Junior School Families!
  • Each year, the Forum for Change at Havergal asks students the question “What kind of world do you want?” Eight years ago, a group of students responded to this question by forming Athletes in Motion (AIM), a group with a mission to ensure that sport is accessible to all. Havergal has proudly run the AIM Sport for Community camp for students from our community partnership schools each August ever since. Last summer, Cissy Goodridge, Havergal’s Director of Performing Arts, initiated a music camp based on the AIM model and the Band at Havergal (BACH) camp was born!
  • For the first time ever, Havergal is inviting our Junior School students to participate in both the AIM sport and BACH music camps alongside youth from our community partnership schools. The camps are open to children ages 9-12 and will run over the last two weeks of August. The registration fee is $400 per child, per week. A portion of this fee will go towards ensuring that sport and music opportunities continue to remain accessible to campers from our community partnership schools.
  • Registration forms with detailed camp information can be found in the Junior School front office. Please return the completed registration and waiver form to the Junior School office by April 3, 2017. Registration fees will be charged to your daughter’s account.
