Message from Head of Junior School - May 25, 2018

Dear Junior School Parents,

With only 12 more school days until the end of the school year, we are still going strong!

Yesterday, we were inspired Grade 4s led a special Prayers about Girl Power. They spoke about the underrepresentation of women in STEM fields and the portrayal of women in the media. They showed us pictures of t-shirts that are printed for girl, with slogans such as "I'm too pretty to do math" and "Things I am good at: Shopping, Dancing, Listening to Music...Things I am not good at: Math...Hey, you can't be good at everything!" Recognizing the need for active change, our girls then presented t-shirts that they designed with messages about Girl Power. CLICK HERE for pictures from this very special prayers.

Sincerely,
Kate White

ATHLETICS
In the blink of an eye, spring athletics have come to an end. I am so proud of every girl who participated in Junior School spring athletics. They braved the elements and in a short time, they all grew tremendously in skill and confidence. Bravo!

Congratulations to our U12 Softball Team for winning the CISAA Championships!

Congratulation to our U12, U11, and U10 Track and Field team who competed in the championships. Results are to come.

HAVERGAL JS STUDENTS WIN FIRST PLACE OVERALL AT JUNIOR SCIENCE OLYMPICS!
On Saturday, April 28th, 3 students from each of grade 4,5 and 6 represented Havergal College at the Junior Science Olympics at Crescent School.  The girls participated in a variety of events such as electric circuits, mirror and laser mazes, tin foil boat building and many other challenges.  Our grade 5 students placed 4th in their division, the grade 6 students placed 2nd and the grade 4 students placed 1st.  Overall, Havergal students finished the day in 1st place and brought home the cup!  Congratulations to Jana, Tessa, Claudia, Kasia, Emilia, Mae, Carina, Aryana and Ella for doing such a fine job representing the Junior School and for their outstanding performance in the Science Olympics!  Congratulations are also due to all the wonderful hands-on opportunities our teachers provide the girls during their lessons.  You just never know when the girls will draw upon them to problem solve.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
ADMISSIONS TEAM NEEDS YOUR HELP
Admissions needs volunteers to help with Havergal’s Welcome Family Program. This initiative helps welcome our new families to the Junior School. Welcome Families will be asked to connect with one of our new families via email or phone to help make them feel a part of our community before they start in September. Families may have questions that only a parent can answer and it is so nice for them to make a connection with someone  who already has the ins and outs of life at the Junior School. To learn more about becoming a Welcome Family please click the link below.
